The Totem shows the spirit of textiles, with five masks displaying 12 handmade techniques: appliqué, couché, embroidery, quilting, beading, bobbin-lace, cording, crochet, nautical knotting, dyeing, braiding and puckering.
These traditional techniques are combined with the spirit of Indigenous creation, which is always contemporary: together, they form an important reminder of the hand manipulation of materials—and its creative process—that has accompanied mankind since times immemorial.
